Today in Teaching with Mr. Lee

“I hate gays”(I have literally no idea how this came up but somehow it did)

Why?
“Ummm”
Why?
“Tradition!” “Our environment!”
Tradition literally kills people. Tradition dictates that not that long ago in America, I, a black man, could be killed for looking at a white woman. Tradition is not an excuse for bigotry.
“Oh my god!!!”

Lesson of the day:
Think about why you believe what you believe. If you sit down and come to a conciliatory conclusion that you hate gay people, fine, I will not argue with you about that; I’m not into converting people. However, I ask that you take the time to actually consider why you hold these beliefs rather than blindly accept what you’ve hear or been told as absolute. Can you do that, for me? For yourselves? Think about why you believe what you believe.

“Yes Mr Lee!!”

I don’t care if they don’t learn a word of English if they took today’s discussion to heart. That is how I will feel fulfilled in my service.

Next class they learn what 那个 (nage) sounds like
