This child was terrified of me when we met this morning. This evening, he left smiling and even shook my hand. I admit, I almost cried.

This sort of thing happens to me quite often. It would be too easy to hate China and how Black people have been portrayed here, but nothing would come of that. Instead, I continue to smile and say hi and work to make them comfortable with someone who isn’t Asian or blonde & blue eyed.
